Overview
Ameresco, one of the world’s leading independent providers of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions for businesses and organizations, engaged Piper Communications to help Knox County reduce its energy and operating costs using solar energy.
Solution
Ameresco worked with Piper Communications to deliver an innovative energy solution that will save Knox County $29 million over 30 years and enhance STEM learning opportunities for its students. Piper engaged the Knox County Mayor’s Office to champion the project as a cost reduction and energy independence project for both the school system and the county. The school system selected Ameresco to install more than 5 megawatts of solar photovoltaic systems on the rooftops of 11 schools and the Central Office Building, along with ground-mount solar arrays at the Knox County Detention and Juvenile Justice Facilities.
